The Clarivate Analytics list of Highly Cited Researchers for 2019 names three renowned researchers from the University of Houston as the most often cited by their fellow scientists.
Citations are references made by researchers to credit other researchers. A scientist having his or her work cited by others in the field attaches a reputation of credibility and authoritativeness to his or her name. Citations are also a measure of the impact of a researcher’s work.
The Clarivate Analytics list of Highly Cited Researchers highlights scientists all over the world who have significantly influenced their field by way of publications and highly cited papers during the last decade.
A total of 22 categories of research are considered for analysis. The UH researchers who were listed are:
- Zhu Han, John and Rebecca Moores professor of electrical and computer engineering, recognized in the field of computer science
- Olafs Daugulis, Robert A. Welch Chair of Chemistry, recognized in the chemistry category
- Zhifeng Ren, director of the Texas Center for Superconductivity at UH and professor of physics, recognized in the category of physics
“Recognition and support of these exceptional researchers represents an important activity for a nation or an institution’s plans for efficient and accelerated advancement. The Highly Cited Researchers list contributes to the identification of that small fraction of the researcher population that significantly extends the frontiers of knowledge,” said David Pendlebury, the senior citation analyst at the Institute for Scientific Information.
“These researchers create gains for society, innovation, and knowledge that make the world healthier, richer, more sustainable, and more secure.”
