Virtual Safety Walk
UHPD's Virtual Safety Walk is a valuable service aimed at ensuring the safety of students, staff, and faculty while walking across the University of Houston (UH) campus. This service is exclusively available through the UH Go mobile app and can be accessed only within the 77204 zip code, which covers the main UH campus.
UHPD’s Virtual Safety Walk allows UHPD to monitor your walk across campus using the UH Go mobile app. This feature will provide users the ability to simply press a button should you need emergency assistance while walking.
Availability
Please note that this service is currently not available at the Sugar Land and Katy campuses. To use the Virtual Safety Walk, users must be logged into UH Go with their CougarNet account.
How to Access the Virtual Safety Walk
- Open the UH Go mobile app.
- Click on 'UH Police' icon at the top of the home page or in the bottom navigation bar
- Click on the 'Virtual Safety Walk'.
Setting Up the Service
Once you have accessed the Virtual Safety Walk, follow these steps to ensure the service is configured correctly for your device:
- Ensure location tracking is enabled on your device.
- Verify your phone number.
Using the Virtual Safety Walk
After setting up the service, you can begin your walk. As you walk, the app will track your location and allow UHPD to monitor your safety. Upon reaching your destination, simply click the "I have arrived" button to complete the safety walk.
In Case of Emergency
If at any point you feel unsafe or encounter an emergency, press the "Panic Button" in the app. It is crucial to leave the app open after pressing the panic button. UHPD will respond promptly, using the app to determine your location as if you had called 911.
