This list provides the teachHOUSTON course sequence and a suggested pathway for students based on the semester in which a student starts. Email the Faculty Advisor, Dr. Karen McIntush at kemcintu@central.uh.edu or tHadvising@uh.edu for more information.

Math Majors: Please note that MATH 3379 Higher Geometry is a required course for the teachHOUSTON capstone, and students must plan for this in their final few semesters.

Courses in green are field-based. Two field-based courses cannot be taken in the same semester. View course descriptions for more detail.

Course Credit Substitutions

As an Educator Preparation Program (EPP) in the state of Texas, teachHOUSTON reserves the right to verify the equivalency of coursework and training received by prospective Teacher Candidates for that of the above listed teachHOUSTON courses. Prospective teacher candidates must provide documentation of prior academic coursework and/or relevant training (e.g. transcripts and certifications) to the Academic Program Manager prior to EPP admission. NOTE: teaching experience without certification will not count towards certification and coursework after admission into EPP. Please see additional teachHOUSTON program policy on course credit substitution provided below:

Military Service Members and Veterans

Per Title 19 TAC §228.35(a)(5)(A) of the Texas Administrative Code, military service members or military veteran candidates may receive course credit for verified military service, training or education toward the training, education, work experience, or related requirements (other than certification examinations) for educator certification requirements, provided that the military service, training, or education is directly related to the certification being sought.

Non-Military Service Members

Per Title 19 TAC §228.35(a)(5)(B) of the Texas Administrative Code, teacher candidates admitted into teachHOUSTON who are not military service members or military veterans may substitute prior or ongoing service, training, or education, provided that the experience, education, or training is not also counted as a part of an internship, clinical teaching, or practicum requirements. Training or education sought to be substitutes for teachHOUSTON coursework must be provided by an approved EPP or an accredited institution of higher education within the past five years, and must be directly related to the certification being sought.
