Sexuality and Gender Acceptance (SAGA) Squad

The Sexuality and Gender Acceptance (SAGA) Squad is a student leadership program for the LGBTQIA+ and ally students. Participants represent the Center, plan outreach initiatives and events, and create a welcoming environment for all in the LGBTQ Resource Center (LGBTQRC).
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours
- Must currently hold and maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA
- Must desire to create and maintain a welcoming and supportive space on campus
- Must display leadership potential, positive work ethic, and adaptability
- Must be willing to serve as a collaborative team member
- Must be willing to examine your identity and challenge your assumptions and privileges
Responsibilities
- Serve a full one-year academic term with a review at the end of the fall semester
- Commit to serving and supporting the mission of the LGBTQRC through language and behavior
- Spend at least 3 hours per week in the Resource Center welcoming students, sharing resources, and general office duties
- Represent the LGBTQRC at least 2 campus and community events per semester (e.g. Speakers Bureau, Coming Out Monologues, various awareness days/events, tabling, etc.)
- Attend mandatory two-day teambuilding at beginning of Fall semester
- Promote all services and programs offered through the LGBTQRC by creating educational content for social media, bulletin boards, and infographics
- Engage in active research of resources at UH for students and LGBTQQIAA+ people
- Foster a greater understanding of identities, intersectionality, and brainstorm ways to provide education about and support for individuals with those identities
- Develop and implement one to two outreach initiatives or social events per semester as a team
- Lead and/or participate in student-led group discussions (Bisexuality, QTPOC, Activism/Politics, etc.)
- Attend mandatory two-day teambuilding retreat each semester
- Meeting LGBTQRC advisor twice per semester to discuss personal growth within the program
- Other duties as assigned by the SAGA Squad advisor
Time Commitments
- 2-Day Teambuilding in Fall Semester (mandatory)
- SAGA Squad Meetings (1.5 hours weekly)
- LGBTQ Resource Center Events (3-6 hours weekly)

- SAGA Squad leaders will learn leadership skills such as public speaking, facilitation, strategic planning, confidence, accountability, and other skills beneficial for the future
