Poster session - 12-3 pm |
3-Minute Thesis
A 3-minute thesis, or 3MT®, is a skill development activity that challenges graduate students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. Besides the time limitation, students are also limited to a single static PowerPoint slide with no additional electronic media or props. Participating in a 3MT® competition comes with various benefits. The competition cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. Additionally, students increase their capability to communicate their research to a non-specialized audience. Finalists for the competition will be selected from a preliminary round which will be held on October 25, 2019. The UH 3MT® competitor’s guide and 3MT® Examples are available to assist you in preparing for the 3MT competition.
Submission Criteria
- The graduate student applicant should have research experience, the ability to communicate their research to a lay audience and should be an active graduate student (masters or doctoral level) in good standing with their respective college.
- Applications must be submitted online no later than 5:00 PM CST on October 9, 2019 as a single pdf with the file name format as follows: StudentUHID_LastName_FirstName.pdf.
Students will be notified of the outcome of the application process no later than October 11, 2019 If you have any questions, please contact Ms.Chastyne Blacklock 713-743-4226 or gradschool@uh.edu

Poster Presentations
The poster session will feature poster presentations by graduate students. While poster presentations are common to some disciplines (STEM, education, etc.), the goal is to encourage participation across the university and to include all areas. No particular format for the posters is required and each will be considered in relation to the research or creative products associated with the discipline. The Graduate School will work with the selected students to help prepare them for this opportunity. During the event, the posters will be judged by a panel of external judges from a variety of disciplines.
