Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (DELPS) associate professor Kristi Santi has been elected Vice President of the Texas Council for Learning Disabilities which is an international organization with a strong presence in Texas.
Santi explained that the College of Education (COE) will continue to benefit from her work within this organization through the dissemination of research to both researchers and practitioners. She also noted that the University of Houston (UH) will be proudly represented at the state and international conferences.
“I am honored to have been elected to this position by my colleagues within the organization,” said Santi. “As the Vice President, I will continue to promote the research to practice initiatives that lead to positive educational experiences for students with learning disabilities as well as other at-risk students.”
“Dr. Santi has worked diligently to provide evidence-based best practices that positively influence researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in Texas and across the nation who are concerned with improving multitudes of educational opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities,” said DELPS chair Anthony Rolle. “I am quite pleased, but not surprised, that Dr. Santi has been selected by her peers to represent the Texas Council for Learning Disabilities as Vice President.”
Santi’s research activities center on students with disabilities and currently focus on the following two areas: 1.) early reading instruction (K-3), language acquisition, English language learners with and without disabilities, coaching teachers in the K-12 setting and; 2.) transition services for students moving from high school to college.
The Council for Learning Disabilities (CLD), an international organization composed of professionals who represent diverse disciplines, is committed to enhancing the education and quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities across their life span. CLD accomplished this by promoting and disseminating evidence-based research and practices related to the education of individuals with learning disabilities. In addition, CLD fosters (a) collaboration among professionals; (b) development leaders in the field; and (c) advocacy for policies that support individuals with learning disabilities at local, state, and national levels.
