CFISD Names School after UH COE Alum Janet Hoover

Janet HooverCypress Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) will open two new elementary schools in August 2017.  It has been a tradition for the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Board of Trustees to name schools after people who have dedicated service to the district.  University of Houston, College of Education (UH COE) Alum, Janet Hoover has been chosen as the namesake for Elementary #56.  Hoover retired in 2010 after 36 years with CFISD. She is also a 1970 Cy-Fair High School graduate. 

Janet began her career with CFISD in 1974 as a special education teacher and general education teacher for Post Elementary School, spent six years at Holbrook Elementary School as a team leader, served as an assistant principal at Holmsley Elementary School for two years then Millsap Elementary School for three years.  Hoover also served as principal of Millsap Elementary for 10 years and principal at Gleason Elementary School for three years and retired as Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Administration at the Instructional Support Center in 2010.

Janet Hoover with the CFISD Board of Trustees“To this day, Hoover continues to benefit the district by coaching new elementary principals and is always ‘first in line’ to volunteer her assistance for projects throughout the communities in the district,” said Mark Henry, Board of Trustees, CFISD. “Her love and devotion for CFISD, the students, staff and community are beyond compare.”

 “To have a school named after you is the ultimate career/professional honor!  I am overwhelmed, humbled and honored by this recognition,” said Hoover.  “I was supported by those around me throughout my career.  My accomplishments were the results of all that support along the way.  I have been blessed to have a CFISD family forever.”

When asked what UH COE professors inspired her the most, Hoover responded, “professors who lit a fire under me were Dr. Richard Hooker and Cynthia Norris.”

Hoover received a mid-management certification from UH COE and was also a member of the 1988 Danforth Scholar Program (Principal's Reflective, Experiential Preparation Program). She currently serves as the secretary of UH COE Alumni Association and has served as vice president and president.  Hoover also served 6 years on the UH Alumni Association board of directors.
