The Division of Student Affairs is thrilled to celebrate Kyle Mutz, director of the Justin Dart Jr. Student Accessibility Center, who was recognized by the City of Houston with Houston Champion of Inclusion (COIN) Award in the Person with a Disability category by the City of Houston on White Cane Safety Day (Oct. 20).

“This award is a celebration for our entire campus community,” Kyle said. “At the Justin Dart Jr. Student Accessibility Center, I'm fortunate and grateful to work alongside an incredible team whose dedication makes recognitions like this possible.”

“My team is fortunate to have supportive leadership from Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Paul Kittle and Assistant Vice President for Health and Wellbeing, Chris Dawe” he added. “I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our partners across campus-Facilities, Parking, EOS, CASA, UHPD, Instructional Designers, Auxiliary Services, Colleges, Division of Student Affairs departments, faculty, and so many others-whose support is essential to our mission. Working together, we have helped make the University of Houston a destination for students and people with disabilities.”

Mutz holds a bachelor's degree in special education, rehabilitation and school psychology from the University of Arizona and a Master of Arts in rehabilitation counseling with a minor in psychiatric rehabilitation.

He also previously represented the United States as a wheelchair athlete while traveling all over the world.

Mutz has truly shown a commitment to the University of Houston and the Justin Dart Jr. Student Accessibility Center and we are proud to celebrate him.

"I'm really proud of Kyle and his team for the outstanding work they do to create access for our students and everyone at UH,” said Dawe. “Their efforts make UH a shining example that welcomes our entire community to campus. Recognition from the City of Houston for those efforts affirms what we know here that Kyle, his team, and all the partners across campus are fantastic advocates for creating an accessible UH!"

Congratulations, Kyle!
