About Us

The mission of the Consortium is to bring together collaborative teams at the inter-institutional level and support research training to promote understanding of high risk children’s language and learning difficulties. Based at the University of Houston (UH), TCHRC supports activities that involve two or more institutions in the Texas Medical Center, as well as the University of Texas- Austin (UT-Austin). The Consortium will serve as a resource for recruiting other top scientists to UH in related disciplines to further expand the impact of the Texas Consortium on High-Risk Children.

The vision of the Consortium is to enhance the ability of our faculty to build the infrastructure necessary to sustain the effort already existing in the Consortium and to empower the next generation of scientists. The vision is also to include a more interdisciplinary team of scientists to develop and test more effective models of intervention, information dissemination, and pre-service and in-service training of teachers, school administrators, and medical practitioners who serve at-risk populations of children and adolescents. The ultimate goal is to close the achievement gap of the high risk students.
