INDIA STUDIES SCHOLARSHIPS SPRING 2026

Shri Sita Ram Foundation Excellence Scholarship in India Studies

DEADLINE: APRIL 5, 2026, 5 pm

The India Studies Program at the University of Houston is pleased to announce the Excellence Scholarship for Spring 2026. This scholarship will award three prizes of $700, $600, and $500, respectively, to three students currently enrolled in India
Studies or India-related courses at the University of Houston. Applicants are required to write a five-page essay (double-spaced, 12-point font) outlining how their study of India has contributed to their academic coursework and/or career development beyond the classroom.

Criteria:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in one or more India-related or India Studies courses and have a current minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Applicants must submit a resume, unofficial transcripts, and a five-page essay outlining how the study of India has contributed to their academic coursework and/or career development beyond the classroom.
  • All complete application dossiers will be reviewed by a panel of UH India Studies faculty affiliates.
  • Please ensure that your name is included in all materials, and email them as an attachment to the following address as a single PDF document: smajumd4@central.uh.edu
  • The document should be saved as the student’s last name-India Studies Fellowship 2026 (e.g., Smith-India Studies Fellowship 2026).

The India Studies Program at the University of Houston is pleased to announce the Excellence Scholarship awarded in Spring 2024. The scholarship will award $500 each to three undergraduate students currently enrolled in India Studies courses.

Criteria:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in one or more India-related or India Studies course(s) and have a current minimum GPA of 3.0. 
  • Applicants must submit a resume, unofficial transcripts, and a two-page essay outlining how the study of India has contributed to their academic coursework and/or career.

TAMIL STUDIES Excellence Scholarship

Modern and Classical Languages at the University of Houston is pleased to announce the TAMIL STUDIES Excellence Scholarship awarded in FALL 2023. The scholarship will award $ 1,000 each to a maximum of five undergraduate students currently enrolled in the “Introduction to Tamil Studies” course. The Scholarship is awarded based on excellence in coursework. DEADLINE: December 10, 2023.

Criteria

  • Applicants must be enrolled in one or more Tamil Studies courses.
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. 
  • Applicants must submit a resume and unofficial transcripts.
