To Dr. Hayder Ali, a UH History alumnus (2016) turned physician, the study of history is essential to understanding “our collective experience as a species” and making sense of our present times: “The value is as self-evident as the value of memory to a human person, except that the study of history requires active investigation, the seeking of evidence, analysis, building and falsifying theories – it is both an empirical and very human venture.”

“Having a History major has opened up doors for me. I act as an Account Manager for a Third Party Administrator firm, a somewhat niche field in the retirement industry space and one that ‘no one goes to college for.’ My role involves acting as an advisor to clients of the firm, managing project timelines, and maintaining knowledge of IRS and DOL regulations regarding retirement plans.
