Adaptive Athletics at the University of Houston
Empowering through sport. Learning through service.
Adaptive Athletics at the University of Houston is a multifaceted program dedicated to promoting and advancing disability sport. We provide inclusive athletic programming for university students and athletes with disabilities, and proudly host a variety of local, national, and international adaptive sport events.
Our mission extends beyond competition. Through innovative research initiatives, we contribute to the growing body of knowledge surrounding adaptive athletics, sport performance, and disability inclusion.
Additionally, Adaptive Athletics at UH functions as a unique service-learning academic course, offering students the opportunity to engage directly with the community. Students gain hands-on experience by planning, coordinating, and leading our programs—developing real-world skills while gaining a deeper understanding of disability, inclusion, and adaptive sport.
Why choose UH to house such a program?
The second most diverse university campus in the United States, with more than 300 undergraduate and graduate programs and more than 45,00 students, the University of Houston offers us a great starting point for pursuing our goal of enabling those with disabilities to have access to opportunities. We are also the only University in Texas to offer wheelchair tennis and we hope to incorporate more sports into the club soon.
