Synopsis:

The project is a longitudinal study to examine communication disorders associated with strokes on the right side of the brain. Such strokes can cause difficulty with Theory of Mind, the ability to understand that others have thoughts, beliefs, and knowledge that differs from one’s own. The project will evaluate the areas of the brain critical for theory of mind functions, how theory of mind deficits change over time during recovery from stroke, and how they impact everyday language and communication.
