Raven S. Watkins is a Professor of Practice and Clinical Educator in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. She brings extensive experience in providing speech-language pathology services across the lifespan, from pediatrics to geriatrics. Most recently, Ms. Watkins has focused her clinical expertise in inpatient rehabilitation hospital settings, specializing in stroke rehabilitation, swallowing disorders, and cognitive-communication therapy. Ms. Watkins demonstrates a strong commitment to guiding Clinical Fellows and graduate students, prioritizing the use of evidence-based methodologies in adult practice. Currently serving as a Clinical Educator, Ms. Watkins’ professional interests include cognitive therapy, Aphasia, Apraxia, and adult brain injuries. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to improving patient outcomes and advancing clinical education in speech-language pathology.

Clinical Interests

Ms. Watkins' clinical interests include working with adults who have experienced neurological impairments, including traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and other acquired brain disorders. She is particularly passionate about helping individuals regain their communication, cognitive, and swallowing abilities to improve their overall quality of life. In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Watkins is deeply committed to the education and professional development of future speech-language pathologists.

Clinical Activities/Accomplishments

  • Served as Lead Speech-Language Pathologist in an inpatient hospital setting, overseeing patient caseloads, coordinating care, and mentoring junior therapists and support staff.
  • Educated hospital staff through Continuing Education Units (CEUs) focused on stroke recovery, neuroplasticity, and dysphagia management, enhancing team knowledge and improving patient care standards.
  • Provided clinical training and mentorship to graduate students and clinical fellows, supporting skill development, evidence-based practice, and professional growth.
