Job Fair 2015

The 2015 Communication Sciences and Disorders (COMD) Job Fair for soon-to-be graduates was held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in the new Student Center Ballroom on the University of Houston campus. Twenty-six employers from a wide assortment of employment settings were on hand to speak with job seekers. These employers were looking to fill an array of positions throughout the Houston area and beyond. Employers primarily sought positions for Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) or Licensed Assistants in Speech-Language Pathology (SLPA). In addition, the Communication Science and Disorders Alumni Network (ComDAN) and Houston Association for Communication Disorders (HACD), our community partners, were available to discuss opportunities after graduation.

This was a great opportunity for job seekers to network with employers at schools, private practices and home health companies. Janet Eckert, UH COMD Externship Coordinator, reported that the students were impressive. One of the potential employers commented, “The students were very interactive, asked thoughtful questions and were great conversationalists.”

For the past 6 years, 100% of COMD graduates seeking employment were employed within four months of graduation. The COMD Job Fair contributes to the successful employment of our graduates.

Some of the employers were also COMD alumni. Familiarity with the job seeking process and COMD program made the Job Fair an unofficial reunion and put the future employees at ease. Each of the pictures includes COMD alumni with soon-to-be COMD graduates.
