Turia of East African and Indian descent comes to CAPS with an extensive administrative background. Turia's passion in education began at an early age with her father being the director of the Ministry of Education in Somalia. Her childhood played a big role in instilling resilience, strength, and a strong devotion to education. As a Denver, Colorado transplant from Somalia, she received three diplomas in Teaching, Office Specialist and Administrative Assistant as well as being certified by the Society for Human Resources Management. Her administrative career includes working for United Nations, in the Middle East, Denver, Atlanta and Houston. Turia volunteers on weekends at the Sunday school at her local Mosque, where she administers youth development programs which focuses on leadership and education. Turia is very proud of being a part of the UH diverse community. The diversity that the campus promotes and working with the students has been very fulfilling. Every single day, there might be a young life saved or a person uplifted. With her entire life being shaped around education, Turia aims to spark a similar passion for education and mental health advocacy in others.
