Steve Alsarraf
Psychology Doctoral Practicum Student
Steve Alsarraf is a doctoral student in the School Psychology Ph.D. program at the University of Houston. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the College of Charleston and has completed clinical training in school-based settings, providing individual counseling, conducting psychological assessments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting children, adolescents, and emerging adults through a variety of emotional, behavioral, academic, and life challenges.
Steve strives to create a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment where students feel comfortable exploring their experiences and identifying meaningful goals. His therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and integrates Motivational Interviewing, strengths-based interventions, mindfulness, and solution-focused techniques. He values meeting students where they are and working together to develop practical strategies that promote resilience, self-understanding, and personal growth.
Steve's clinical interests include anxiety, stress management, adjustment and life transitions, self-esteem, emotional regulation, motivation, identity development, and supporting students as they navigate academic and personal challenges. He is fluent in Arabic and English and values providing culturally responsive care to students from diverse backgrounds.
Outside of work, Steve enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, staying active, cooking, exploring new restaurants, and reading about psychology.
