The Graduate College of Social Work holds one Convocation Ceremony in May of each year. This ceremony individually recognizes and honors the prior December graduates and the May and August graduation candidates from the current year. A student can finalize and receive their degree in any semester and then participate in the annual ceremony in May.
In addition, this year the University of Houston begins a new tradition of hosting a University-wide Commencement in May. GCSW students are also encouraged to attend this event where we will be recognized as a college and degrees will be conferred.
The faculty and staff of the Graduate College of Social Work are proud to invite you, your family, and guests to attend the May GCSW Convocation recognizing all December, May, and August MSW and PhD graduates. The GCSW Convocation for May 2015 is scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at 2:00pm. The ceremony is typically 2 hours in length. The ceremony is only for GCSW graduates and their guests. Cullen Performance Hall seating will be available approximately one hour prior to the ceremony time. There is not a per graduate guest limit. The seating is first-come first-serve on the day of the ceremony. It is recommended that your group arrives together to ensure seating near each other.
Please also represent the GCSW at the University Commencement at TDECU Stadium on Friday, May 15. The procession begins at 6:00pm and then the ceremony promptly at 7:00pm.
In order to walk in the May ceremonies students must attend the mandatory rehearsal in the Cullen Performance Hall scheduled for Thursday May 7th at 4:30pm. The rehearsal generally runs from one hour to an hour and a half. Walk Cards will be reviewed at rehearsal. You will find out critical details about the ceremony at rehearsal.

Family and friends should feel free to bring cameras and video recorders and take as many pictures as they desire. They may not stand in the aisles during the ceremony. We also suggest that family photographers take photos at home and at other locations on campus prior to or after the ceremony.
There will be a professional photographer present at the ceremony to take your picture as you are crossing the stage, as you exit the stage, and as a group. You will be able to order pictures from the photographer directly. You will receive this information at the Mandatory Rehearsal.
December, May and August graduates will receive their diploma in the mail once your degree has been approved, conferred and posted. Diplomas are mailed directly to you at the most current address provided through your myUH account.
To check the order and shipment status of your diploma, you may visit: www.michaelsutter.com/UH. Please keep in mind that diploma shipment information is updated weekly.
