The Portable On Demand Art (P.O.D.A.) Project is a temporary public art exhibition of portable storage units transformed into a works of art.

The P.O.D.A. project provides a non-traditional platform for artists to explore the cultural, ecological, political, scientific and socio-economic forces shaping Houston’s aspirations for the future, and showcases our city as a vibrant arts and cultural capital and museum mecca for locals and visitors alike.

Co-presented on campus by Blaffer Art Museum and the UH Public Arts Collection, the P.O.D.A. Project features work by Aerosol Warfare, BOX 13 ArtSpace, Lynne McCabe, Gabriel Martinez, Metalab, and Anthony Shumate.

CLASS alums participating in the project include Shumate and several Box 13 collective members – Heather Bause, Dennis Harper, Emily Link and Emily Sloan.

The exhibition was originally created in conjunction with the May 2011 American Association of Museums (AAM) Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo held in Houston. PODS Houston provided the storage units. A grant from the City of Houston’s Special Initiative Grant Program through the Houston Arts Alliance and Houston Museum District Association also helped to fund the project.

For the past six months the P.O.D.A. exhibition has been on view in various locations throughout the greater Houston area. The Box 13 container was displayed at the city’s inaugural Houston Fine Art Fair at the George R. Brown Convention Center in October.

Six out of the eight projects are on campus near the Fine Arts Building and the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture building. They will be on view through December 15.
