Message from College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS)
Dean Antonio D. Tillis on Hurricane Harvey

Dear CLASS faculty, staff, students, and alumni,

Now that we are in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, it is going to take a lot of time to rebuild our communities. However, most importantly, I am exceedingly grateful to learn that our CLASS faculty, staff, and students are all accounted for. Although some of us have had our homes flooded, cars damaged, and valuable and precious possessions destroyed, we remain resilient and grateful that we have our lives, family, friends and each other. For those in the CLASS community that experienced the loss of a loved one either as a result of this horrific storm or due to other causes, I want to express my deepest sympathy during your time of grief.

I urge you to visit the UH Hurricane Harvey Relief web page for the latest information regarding the university’s status as well as to learn valuable information about how UH is poised to assist you – and to help you assist others – during this difficult time.

In addition, I encourage you to frequently visit the CLASS website, as we are working with our psychology department to post news articles about ways to cope emotionally after this storm. Additionally, the UH Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) website “Let’s Talk”? link has details about informal, confidential consultations with therapists from (CAPS), if you are interested in that service.

My thoughts and prayers are continually with those affected.

Warmest regards,

Dr. Antonio D. Tillis
