Energy Day will be back in full swing October 15 at Sam Houston Park. Hosted by the Consumer Energy Education Foundation and the Consumer Energy Alliance, it is the largest energy-focused festival in the city.
Created 10 years ago, Energy Day has sought to introduce K-12 students to the relationship between the energy industry, society, and our city. The event features exciting exhibits and interactive demonstrations that will teach students and their families about various forms of energy and how through STEM education, they can find an exciting career in the energy industry.
As one of the top strategic industry partners in Houston, UH Energy will highlight the work and demonstrations of researchers and energy-related organizations from across campus.
Event admission is free, and Energy Day is open to all members of the community. Organizers are planning to bus students from all around the Houston area.
“We are working with specific school to get kids to come in that otherwise wouldn’t be able to come in." saidCEEF Executive Director Colleen McCauley.
In the past, the Energy Day Festival has attracted more than 25,000 guests with interactive exhibits from leading energy companies such as Chevron, Phillips 66, Conoco, etc.
According to McCauley and CEEF Education Director Aimee Flores, visitors can expect a number of new interactive booths this year.
“This year we are going to have the Final Four Fan Jam vendor promoting the tournament that is going to be held in Houston next year. There will be a few events surrounding the Final Four tournament,” Flores said.
Along with the Final Four Fan Jam booth, younger guests can expect a visit from superheroes of the new book Energy Superheroes. Aside from interactive booths, the festival will have “Caterpillar” worksite equipment , and “Liberty Energy’s” quiet frack pump on display.
Energy Day partners with the Eco-Bot Challenge and Science and Engineering programs, typically providing monetary awards to students, up to a combined amount of 23,000 dollars. To find out more about Energy Day and how you can get involved as one of the UH Energy exhibits, click HERE.
