Led by the Speaker of the Senate and composed of elected Senators, the Legislative Branch drafts, debates, and votes on resolutions and bills to allocate student fee funds and shape university policy.

Welcome to the Legislative Branch of the University of Houston Student Government Association. The Legislative Branch serves as the lawmaking and representative arm of Student Government, responsible for implementing the priorities of the student body through leadership, collaboration, and service. Through the work of the Office of the Speaker, the Senate Committees, and student engagement initiatives, the Legislative Branch coordinates legislation, develops campus partnerships, supports student advocacy efforts, and strengthens the internal operations of SGA to better serve the University of Houston community.
