Constitution: The supreme law of the organization. It establishes the branches of government (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial), defines core student rights, outlines fundamental structures, and sets a high threshold for changes.

Bylaws: Subsidiary operational rules. They dictate the day-to-day administrative details, committee functions, and internal procedures of the Student Senate without contradicting the Constitution.

Establish Authority: Explicitly grant powers to student leaders; any power not clearly written is considered unauthorized.

Provide Accountability: Hold elected and appointed officials responsible through the Department of Justice and ethical guidelines.

Ensure Continuity: Keep student advocacy stable, fair, and aligned with university policies.

Proposing Amendments: Changes begin via official student government legislation introduced in the Student Senate.

Amending the Bylaws: Generally requires a lower legislative threshold (such as a simple or specified majority vote of the active Senate) as defined within the existing framework.

Amending the Constitution: Requires a stricter consensus, typically a two-thirds supermajority vote from the Student Senate, to protect foundational integrity.
