Prepare for PAL coaching

Navigate Your Four-Year Journey with Confidence. Our Peer Academic Leaders (PALs) are here to help you navigate university life. Schedule a meeting today to start developing meaningful strategies and connections with a PAL. Let's get started!

How does it work?

Start by scheduling a time to meet with your PAL. The first conversation is informal, we want to get to know you and the goals you have to help you develop meaningful strategies and connections. You can make as many follow-up meetings as you would like. Peer Coaching is flexible and designed to meet students where they are at - whether in person or online.

Before your first PAL meeting

  1. Spend time putting your thoughts into words. Think about what you’d like to accomplish this semester, year, or even a long term goal.
  2. Bring those thoughts with you. If you have specific questions, we can assist you in creating a success plan. If you're unsure about what questions to ask, that's perfectly fine too. We can work together to figure it out.
  3. Be open and honest. Share your challenges so your PAL can provide tailored advice.
  4. Arrive on time: Respect your PAL’s time by being punctual and prepared.

What Can I Discuss with My PAL?

Your PAL is here to provide guidance and support in several areas of your university experience, including:

  • Goal Setting: Assistance in setting realistic and achievable goals for the semester.
  • Campus Resources: Information about tutoring services, library tools, wellness programs, and other student resources.
  • Navigating University Life: Advice on getting involved in campus organizations, finding your community, or adjusting to college life.
  • Time Management: Tips for organizing your schedule and balancing academic, personal, and extracurricular commitments.

While your PAL is an experienced peer who can support you in many ways, there are certain areas where professional staff are best equipped to assist. If you need help with any of the following, your PAL will work with you to connect you to the right campus resources or offices:

  • Academic advising (e.g., course selection or degree planning)
  • Financial advising or financial aid support
  • Emotional counseling or crisis intervention
  • Professional, legal, or health advice

Your PAL is here to help guide you to the appropriate professionals, ensuring you get the support you need.
