  University of Houston Archaeologists Discover Tomb of First King of Caracol

  Archaeologists from the University of Houston working at Caracol in Belize, Central America have uncovered the tomb of Te K’ab Chaak, the first ruler of this ancient Maya city and the founder of its royal dynasty. Now in ruins, this metropolis was a major political player in Maya history, dominating the southern part of the Yucatan Peninsula from 560 through 680 AD before its abandonment by 900 AD.

  University of Houston Engineer Creates a Possible Replacement for Plastic

  In a world overrun with plastic garbage, causing untold environmental woes, University of Houston assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, Maksud Rahman, has developed a way to turn bacterial cellulose — a biodegradable material — into a multifunctional material with the potential to replace plastic.

  The University of Houston has once again been recognized as one of the nation’s best colleges for value, ranking No. 42 among public universities in The Princeton Review’s list of “Best Value Colleges.” The honor highlights UH’s strong academics, affordable cost and outstanding career outcomes for graduates — key factors that matter most to students and families when choosing a university.
