We seek a Full-Time Community Health Liaison to join the UTHealth School of Public Health in Houston, TX, 77030. This hybrid position will allow for both in-office and remote work. This position will support Project HALT, which focuses on the science of preventing homelessness. In this position, you will contact potential participants as they are discharged from the emergency department to assess eligibility and interest in the program and provide an assessment and offer homeless diversion services to the individual. Work is available at all hours, including weekdays, nights, and weekends. The intention is to complete the work primarily remotely, with limited in-person activity required.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Interviews and established rapport with study participants in order to encourage complete accurate responses and continuing participation in the study.  Works in the field, either going to homes or places of business or at specific study areas.
  • Contacts study participants to schedule interviews in the research study.
  • Decides methods of tracking participants, how to conduct interviews, and whether callbacks are necessary to get further information while coding.
  • Researches newspaper files, hospital records, funeral homes, and all other available resources to obtain names, addresses, phone numbers and other information about study participants.
  • Conducts intervention with research subjects and refers to appropriate physician or healthcare practitioner as outlines in the study policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Schedules tests and physicals as outlines in the study policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Codes and edits information for research projects for entry into database.
  • Handles administrative details such as time and effort reports, and mileage reports.
  • Other duties as assigned

Certification/Skills:

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred:

  • Excellent telephonic communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a complex schedule
  • Cultural sensitivity in working with diverse communities including ability to develop rapport with diverse individuals
  • Ability to work independently
  • Comfort with technology and data entry
  • Equipment will be provided but stable internet and a quiet environment will be needed for those who work from home
  • Background in homeless or social services
  • Experience with HMIS
  • Bilingual – Spanish/English 

Minimum Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

No experience is required, but previous experience working with homeless populations or social services is preferred. 

Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. Security Sensitive: This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215 Residency Requirement: Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

We are looking for a Full-Time Research Coordinator II to join the School of Public Health in Houston, TX 77030. This position oversees community-based outreach on COVID-19 projects in Houston and Harris County. In this position, you will supervise teams of Community Health Workers on various projects and oversee outreach and intervention delivery. This will include frequent communication with community partners, facilitation of team meetings, and management of CHW schedules. This is a hybrid position with an in-office schedule of 3-4 days each week.

Position Summary:
The Research Coordinator II (CHW Supervisor/Project Coordinator) will assist with the day-to-day administrative project management of research projects of considerable scope and complexity. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, co-investigators, and program manager, the Research Coordinator II will assist in recruiting/enrolling participants, engaging community collaborators, planning and overseeing outreach and education, as well as take part in the overall implementation and evaluation of the projects. Preferred candidates are those with project management and supervision experience.The ability to travel to various location throughout Harris County is expected. Must have a driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides day-to-day project management coordination for research projects to include personnel, facilities, supplies in support of research project desired outcomes, budgets, and timeliness.
  • Provides training, supervision, and guidance to Community Health Workers. Prepares appropriate project training curriculum, delivery methods, and continuing education training for relevant staff.
  • Under supervision, implements project according to the specific protocols including some or all of the following: participant recruitment, enrollment, intervention delivery, and evaluation.
  • Prepares, plans, and facilitates team meetings related to CHW intervention across projects. This includes team meetings, cross-regional debriefs, and CHW intervention meetings with investigators and project leaders.
  • Maintains confidential records of collected data, ensures accuracy and integrity of data. Data may include patient data and departmental programmatic data.
  • Prepares weekly reports and communications for the departmental program/division leadership.
  • Coordinates and oversees CHW schedules, including finding events and outreach opportunities in Harris County.
  • May work with community partners to coordinate CHW outreach efforts in the community and at vaccine delivery sites.
  • Provides work administrative direction and guidance to administrative staff personnel within department.
  • May review contracts and develop training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
