Text Communication Terms and Conditions

When you opt-in to receive text messages from the University of Houston Student Health Center & Campus Pharmacy (SHC), you agree to receive text communications  to the mobile number provided related to your relationship with SHC. These messages may include, but are not limited to:

  • Appointment reminders and scheduling updates
  • Healthy Coog Patient Portal account notifications
  • Billing and payment notifications
  • Prescription or medication reminders
  • Care management and follow-up communications

HIPAA and Privacy Notice

The Student Health Center complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and applicable state and federal privacy regulations to protect your health information.

  • Text messaging is not a fully secure or encrypted method of communication.
  • By opting in to receive text messages, you acknowledge and accept the inherent privacy risks associated with text messaging.
  • SHC will make reasonable efforts to limit protected health information (PHI) disclosed via text communication to the minimum necessary (e.g., reminders or general notifications without sensitive clinical details whenever possible).
  • For sensitive health information, you may be directed to access secure communications through the Healthy Coog Patient Portal.

We respect your privacy. Your mobile number and any text messaging originator opt-in data will not be shared with third parties or affiliated organizations for marketing or promotional purposes.

All categories of collected information explicitly exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent. This information will not be shared with any third parties, except as necessary to support the delivery of text messaging services (e.g., approved aggregators and service providers).

Your information will be handled in accordance with SHC’s Notice of Privacy Practices.

Opt-Out Instructions

You may opt out of text communications at any time by replying STOP to any text message from us or by updating your profile in the Healthy Coog Patient Portal.

  • You will receive one final confirmation message after opting out.
  • You will not receive additional text messages unless you re-enroll.
  • To resume messages, enroll through Healthy Coog Patient Portal.
