Continuity for Faculty

Dear Instructors,

The University of Houston has canceled classes for next week (March 16th-21st), and we will resume with remote/online instruction for all courses starting Monday, March 23rd. The Office of Educational Technology and the Instructional Design team will be working remotely to assist you with preparing your course(s). We understand that this might seem daunting; however, we are here to help. Please email classidt@uh.edu to schedule a remote video conference with an instructional designer or to schedule an online training session.

Important documents on Instructional Continuity Support may be found here:

As you prepare to teach your course(s) remotely, the following are a few best practices:

  1. Prepare for 2 weeks of online course instruction and add a new week of course material each week, so that there is always 2 weeks of content in reserve
  2. Add audio to PowerPoint presentation, not everyone needs video content
  3. Video cannot be uploaded into BlackBoard, due to limited server space. Other options are:
    • YouTube
    • OneDrive
  4. Save audio PowerPoints as PDFs so they can be uploaded to BlackBoard or as MPG4 video to be saved in OneDrive
  5. Use Video Conferencing tools without saving video (or save to One Drive)
    • Microsoft Team
    • Skype
    • Zoom, free versions are available (Limited access: 40 minutes with 20-50 attendees)
