How to Apply

Each spring, the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication awards scholarships to communication students at the University of Houston for the following academic school year. This scholarship program awards undergraduate and graduate students majoring within the school who demonstrate campus and/or community involvement, service and leadership.

To qualify for a scholarship, the applicant must:

  1. Maintain full-time status (12 hours for an undergraduate student or 9 hours for a graduate student) during each semester of the award
  2. Maintain a minimum GPA (3.0)

This is the official application form for Jack J. Valenti School of Communication Scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic school year. The application deadline is Friday, MARCH 17, 2023 at 11:59PM. CST.

The Valenti scholarship application process involves multiple steps.

Please read these instructions carefully or else your application may not be considered:
  • Step 1

    Access Your DPR

    The online application requires students to provide information academic information – such as GPA, the number of hours taken at the University of Houston and more. Download our document, Accessing Your Degree Audit Report (DPR), for instructions on how to find that information. For additional help, please contact your academic advisor.
  • Step 2

    Submit Online Application

    Apply for an academic scholarship using our online application form. The application information for 2023-24 scholarships will be posted during the Spring 2022 semester.
  • Step 3

    Get Faculty Recommendations

    In addition to completing the online scholarship application, students must also get ONE recommendation from Valenti faculty members.

     

    Your scholarship application is not considered complete until the Scholarship Committee has received ONE faculty recommendations on your behalf.


    As an applicant, your duty is to secure a recommendation. You should contact faculty member to request a recommendation then attached in email to Dr. Laura Ashley at lashley@uh.edu in PDF or Word Document (not Pages).
