Human Resources held its annual Wellness & Benefits Fair in July, with just over a
thousand University of Houston employees attending.
The fair allows UH employees the opportunity to speak with a wide array of vendors,
such as, TIAA, Fidelity, Voya, Core Bridge, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Deer Oaks EAP,
Bright Horizons and Aflac, to name a few. University departments and services, such
UH Staff Council, UH Athletics, the UH Family Care Center, Police and Campus Smiles
were among the UH groups also participating in the fair.
Sandra Armstrong, Executive Director of Human Resources, called this year’s benefits
fair a success, adding that it is the perfect opportunity for employees to speak to
vendors and discover all the benefits afforded to UH employees.
Armando Hernandez, a TIAA Financial Consultant Director, spoke to a handful of employees
who learned about TIAA’s free consultations for UH employees.
“Ultimately, this fair is an opportunity for us to be able to get to employees who
don’t know who we are and be able to represent how we can help them in an overall
financial wellness,” said Hernandez.
Mike Oestereicher, Assistant Vice President of Facilities/Construction Management,
attended the wellness fair for the first time as an employee and said something new
he learned about his benefits is how the TEX Saver program can help him.
Houston Public Media Manager of Media Production, Fujio Watanabe was among those that
discovered something new about his benefits.
“I enjoyed checking in with the UH Optometry School, quickly scheduling a much-needed
appointment and getting more information about getting my elder parent to the Family
Clinic for eyecare as a first-time patient,” said Watanabe.
“Having most of the Benefits Vendors and Reps available was important to me so I could
ask questions that you just can't get answered from a website.”
With another successful Wellness and Benefits Fair in the books, Armstrong said HR
is proud to be able to offer this opportunity so all UH employees can discover their
benefits.
