University of Houston Dining Services has increased weekend offerings at the Fresh Food Company in Moody Towers. The new offerings include customizable entrées as well as upgraded favorites.
The addition of the new offerings is a direct result of Dining Services acting on students' feedback. Students have pointed out the need for an increase in food diversity during the weekend.
"We evaluated students' feedback concerning the weekend service," said UH Dining Services Director of Operations Shannon Mariani. "We knew we had to make a change to better fit the recent increase in residential students. Our weekend diners are predominantly residential students; they are the backbone of the residential program so we want to make sure we meet their needs by improving their experiences while taking into account the diminished traffic."
UH Dining Services weekend offerings traditionally consisted of the bistro, pizza, salad bar, and a deli station. The new options include a pasta bar, gourmet waffle bar, and Mongolian grill. All three of the new stations are customizable to fit each individual guest. Customers will be able to choose their own toppings for the pasta bar and Mongolian grill and watch as they are prepared by UHDS cooks. The gourmet waffle bars will allow students to create their own waffle by using new waffle irons and then adding a variety of toppings including fruit compote, whipped cream, sprinkles and more. The toppings will rotate periodically to provide even more variety.
The new offerings are popular with students thus far and The Fresh Food Company has received positive feedback on the expanded choices. They have also had to expand their pasta station from three burners to five in order to meet the students' high demand.
The additional offerings will be available for students during fall and spring semesters. The new program will continue in the upcoming fall semester; however the offerings may change based on continuing student feedback.
