Dr. Castilla-Earls was awarded a National Institute of Defaness and Other Communication Disorders K23 grant (2016-2021). She will investigate differences in patterns of language growth and cognitive/processing skills between bilingual children experiencing first language loss and those with language disorders. Her mentors are Dr. David Francias, Dr. Arturo Hernandez, Dr. Jack Fletcher and Dr. Nonnie Lesaux.
Dr. Bunta is a co-investigator on a IES grant
Ferenc Bunta is a co-investigator on a grant by the Institute of Educational Sciences of the US Department of Education, collaborating with David Francis, Kristi Santi, and Raul Rojas. The purpose of this study is to explore factors related to the identification and classification of reading and language disabilities among Spanish-speaking English language learners (ELLs) in an effort to provide school-based professionals with clearer criteria for identifying learning disabilities in these students.
Dr. Kia Johnson ASHA funded grant on multicultural activities
Dr. Johnson's project "Differential Diagnosis of Stuttering in Bilingual Spanish-English Speaking Children" was funded by ASHA Projects on Multicultural Activities. This project is a collaboartion with Dr. Byrd from the University of Texas - Austin.
