New Student Orientation is your first step toward discovering everything UH has to
offer: world-class academics, vibrant campus life, and the opportunities that come
with studying in the heart of Houston, a global hub for energy, health care, arts,
food, and innovation.
New Student Orientation (NSO) is built for you — your goals, your questions, and your
path forward. During Orientation, you’ll connect with advisors and student leaders,
learn how to navigate UH with confidence, and take the first steps toward shaping the experience you want as a Cougar.
After completing NSO, you will be able to:
Create a first‑semester course plan with your advisor and enroll in classes.
Summer or Fall‑admitted *freshmen complete the online modules before coming to campus
for a full orientation experience. During your visit, you’ll meet with advisors, learn
how to navigate UH resources and take the final steps toward registering for your
first semester.
*Students academically classified as freshmen include first-time-in-college students
and transfer students with 29 or fewer hours.
Students admitted as fall transfer Coogs begin with the same required online modules,
followed by an on‑campus session designed to support your transition. You’ll review
degree planning with advising, explore key student services and get familiar with
the UH community.
Students starting in the spring term complete the online modules and then participate
in an in‑person orientation opportunity before classes begin. Spring NSO offers a
focused introduction to UH’s academic expectations, campus support and the next steps
to begin your year confidently.
Online New Student Orientation
All incoming students to UH must attend an in-person orientation session. However,
if you meet specific criteria, you can receive an accommodation to attend a self-paced,
online orientation.
Family and Supporters
Your student isn’t the only one starting a new journey, this transition includes you,
too. Family & Supporter Orientation introduces you to UH’s academic, campus life,
and support resources. You'll gain the information and guidance you need to support
your student throughout their first year and beyond.

first UH experiences.
