Moving Technology from Lab to Market
A primary hurdle in academic research is moving an idea past the laboratory stage. IDHT bridges this gap by offering a clear commercialization pipeline to ensure every developed technology reaches a functional prototype phase.
The IDHT Venture Studio
The custom Venture Studio translates academic insights into investable healthcare businesses. For investigators who want to focus purely on research rather than business management, the Studio offers three commercial pathways:
- Founder Spinoffs: Providing structural guidance for researchers who choose to launch and run their own company.
- Direct Licensing: Connecting innovators with established corporate entities to license algorithms or devices.
- Entrepreneur-in-Residence Handoffs: Partnering technology with an experienced, embedded CEO to build the startup, while financial returns flow back to the investigator and the university.
To fund these spinoff operations, the Institute is establishing a dedicated venture capital fund, backed by an expert corporate Advisory Board.
