UHCOP Students Provide Wellness Screenings, Health Education and Immunization Record Screening for 3,810 at Annual Event

Aug. 5 — UH College of Pharmacy Pharm.D. students engaged with more than 3,800 adult and child attendees through education, wellness screenings, and immunization record screenings at the 2019 Houston Mayor's Back 2 School Fest Aug. 3 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

For its part, UHCOP Pharm.D. students provided more than 300 blood glucose and blood pressure screenings, more than 200 immunization record screenings and educational presentations on such topics as medication safety, sugar content in popular sodas as well as energy and sports drinks, and self care/mental health.

This year's event marked the seventh consecutive year that UHCOP students, faculty and volunteer preceptors have participated in the event, which is aimed at helping economically disadvantaged elementary school students and their families prepare to return to school. The City of Houston partners with numerous sponsors and organizations to provide free backpacks, school supplies, health screenings, immunizations, and social service resources to thousands of students each year.
