Fellowships

Below are fellowships for incoming graduate students in the Department of Physics at the University of Houston (UH). These competitive fellowships will be awarded based on merit.

Biological and Medical Physics Fellowships

Up to four special fellowships for students planning to do their Ph.D. research in biological and medical physics. These fellowships provide an additional stipend of $2,400 above the regular graduate student teaching assistant stipend for the first year of graduate studies. Applicants who wish to be considered for these fellowships should specify their interest in biological and medical physics on their application and cover letter. Students can choose from several areas, including protein folding theory and molecular biophysics; medical imaging physics and bio-photonics; quantum biology, genetic networks and stochastic processes in biology; and the statistical physics in evolutionary and developmental biology.

Presidential Fellowships

These fellowships are available to applicants interested in all research fields. Presidential Fellowships provide an additional stipend of $2,000 per year above the regular graduate student teaching assistant stipend for the first two years of graduate studies. These fellowships are offered with the goal of identifying exceptional students to work in emerging areas of research in the UH Department of Physics.
