Self-Driving Cars, Electric Vehicles and the Future of Transportation

UH Forum Focuses on Future Changes for Passenger, Freight and Industrial Fleets

There’s little disagreement that transportation will be transformed over the coming decades, with electric and self-driving vehicles expected to become a growing presence on the world’s roads and highways.

But how quickly will that happen? Will passenger cars or heavy-duty truck fleets take the lead? And what technical and policy changes will be needed to ensure smooth adoption? Experts in automation, transportation and innovation will address the coming transportation revolution at a symposium on the University of Houston campus Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The symposium, part of a popular discussion series hosted by UH Energy, begins at 6 p.m. in the Houston Room of the UH Student Center South. The event is free and open to the public, although registration is requested.

Speakers include Sola Lawal, product operations manager at Nuro, a California-based robotics company; Holly Reed, managing director of external affairs at Texas Central, the high-speed passenger rail project connecting Greater Houston with the Dallas-Fort Worth area; and Anita Sengupta, co-founder and chief product officer of aviation technology start-up Airspace Experience Technologies.

Greg Bean, executive director of the Gutierrez Energy Management Institute in the C.T. Bauer College of Business at UH, will serve as moderator.
