Bayou City Blessings in a Backpack

Monday, October 4, 2021

9:30 am - 11:00 am

Register

Please register by September 28 at 11:59pm.

Bayou City Blessings mobilizes our local community, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends and during school breaks for Houston children who might otherwise go hungry. Their mission serves to raise awareness of childhood hunger by building community and establishing relationships with their educational partners to improve the lives of Houston children.

We will be meeting at 8:45 am in front of the Student Center South by the Help Desk. We will be leaving UH campus by 8:55 am.

Volunteers gather in Palmer Hall which is located directly across the courtyard from the church sanctuary. Look for our white, vertical flag which will mark the entrance. Volunteers gather to pack weekend food bags for the children in our program. Long tables are set up in Palmer Hall for assembly line work. When volunteers arrive, they can begin packing food by moving through the line and placing food items into the bags provided. Leaders will be on hand to help instruct. Generally, volunteers will place one of each item from the tables into a bag. This will include: 2 protein servings; 2 fruit servings; 2 breakfast items and a snack. At times, we will have encouraging notes or special holiday treat bags to include but everything you need will be staged on the tables.

Bayou City Blessings will be following current Covid protocols so they please ask that volunteers wear masks.

The volunteering event will be from 9:30 am - 11:00 am. We will be returning to campus by 11:30 am latest.

You’ll receive a reminder email prior to the event containing more information, and if you have any questions, please contact Sandra Tzul at mvpce@central.uh.edu.
