Alabama Gardens Urban Harvest
Saturday, September 10, 2022
9:00 am - 11:00 am
The Alabama Gardens Urban Harvest Volunteering Event is a community garden within the third ward that aims to bring fresh produce and vegetables to the local community. The garden was started in order to feed the elderly who were having trouble making it to the end of the month on their fixed incomes. Today, the garden is an allotment garden. Every week the garden takes up a collection of produce to bring to SHAPE community center to feed the hungry in their neighborhood.
We will be doing general garden maintenance such as planting and weeding which requires closed toed shoes. Volunteers should be ready to get a bit messy due to the gardening. Also volunteers should bring a cap and a bottle of water due to the Houston weather which will inevitably be hot that day.
Volunteers will meet at SC South at 8:30 AM and depart at 8:45 AM and arrive at the event site at 9:00 AM , and volunteer until 11:00 PM. Please indicate on the sign up form if you can provide carpool- we always need volunteer drivers! After the event, volunteers will return to campus and be back by 11:15 AM.
Please register by 09/09/22 by 11:59 PM.
