The University of Houston’s branding standards can be found at the brand center: https://www.uh.edu/brand/brand-identity/style-guide/

Interior pages maintain consistent structure and design across the website. They’re built using pre-defined templates that align with UH branding and layout standards.

Page Creation & Editing

Click the copyright symbol (©) in the bottom left of any uh.edu page you have Edit access to. This opens the page directly in Modern Campus CMS. If you edit the page frequently, consider bookmarking its Edit view or parent folder in MC.

  2. Click blue +New button.
  3. Select a template or layout type.
  4. Fill in the required information.
  5. Click the blue Create button.

Footers use shared content across all site pages. To make a change, edit the include file rather than each individual page.

  1. Highlight the text you want to turn into a link.
  2. In the WYSIWYG toolbar, click the Insert/Edit Link chainlink icon.
  3. Select a file using the finder icon to the right of the text box or paste a page URL. We reccommend using the finder icon route.
  • Click theContent > Pages.
  • When you find the page you want to publish, click the More Actions menu. This menu is indicated by the three dots to the right of the line item/page you want to publish.
  • Select thePublish dropdown and then select Publish.

Alternatively, while you are editing a page, click the blue Publish button at the top right of the Edit Page view. If you don’t have publish access, you’ll see a green Submit button instead, which routes the page to an approver. After you 'submitting' you will have to wait until your Approver accepts or denies your edits before making further changes.

  1. Click the greenSubmit from the Page Actions toolbar.
  2. Select the approver in the “To” dropdown.
  3. Add a subject and message if needed.
  4. Click the blue Submit button.

Page Structure & Components

  • Folders store supporting files like images or PDFs and do not directly affect navigation.
  • Sections are folders with configuration files (like _props.pcf and _nav.inc) that define layout, navigation, and settings for pages within them.

Edits and uploads in Modern Campus occur on the staging server. These changes become public only when published to the production server (uh.edu).

Only level 9–10 users (administrators) can edit source code by default. They can grant or restrict access for lower levels as needed.

  • Assets: centrally managed and update everywhere they’re used.
  • Snippets: static code blocks inserted directly into a page.
  • Components: structured forms that populate code automatically.

Each alert color represents a message type—for example, red for urgent alerts, yellow for warnings, and blue for informational notices.

The event data file does not publish to the testing domain (modern.web.uh.edu). The carousel works properly only in live production (uh.edu).

Media & Content

  • Text-based files: 10MB
  • Image files: 1MB
  • Other binary files (e.g., videos, PDFs): 10MB

Make sure newly uploaded images are published. Unpublished files will not appear on pages.

Publish the image to both testing and production. Images not yet published will not render in preview or live environments.
