On Facebook, it’s important that you create a Page, not a personal profile. Follow the steps at the link below to create the Page. It’s important that you are logged into Facebook using your real, personal Facebook account while completing these steps. Using a “throwaway” account is against Facebook’s terms and may result in your new Page getting suspended. Don’t worry — creating the Page while logged into your personal Facebook account will not publically associate your personal profile with the Page. Facebook Pages do not have their own username and passwords to access. Additional staff members can be added as admins for the Page by following the steps to give Facebook Page access.
Unlike Facebook, on Instagram, all accounts are set up in the same way. Once your new Instagram account is set up, you will need to convert it from its default state as a personal account into a professional account, which provides you additional features and tools designed for businesses. When you create the account, it is very important to use your department email address rather than your personal email address or your own UH email address.
LinkedIn Pages are similar to Facebook — a Page is different than a personal account, and people are granted admin access to Pages through their personal accounts. It’s important that UH profiles are set up as Pages, not personal accounts. When you are creating a LinkedIn Page, you will do so while logged into your personal account (which will not be publically associated with the new Page). There are three types of LinkedIn Pages for organizations: Company, Showcase page and Educational institution.
- If this new Page will represent a department that is nested inside one of the University’s divisions or colleges, you should choose Showcase page. This page type has the same capabilties and appearance as any other independent Page on LinkedIn, but it will display as an associated page of the parent page. To create a Showcase page, you will need to already be an admin of the parent page. If you are not an admin of the parent page, the staff member who is an admin of it will need to create the Showcase page for you, then provide you admin access to it once it’s been created.
- If the new Page represents a major new department that doesn’t belong to an existing department that has a LinkedIn Page, you should choose Company.
- Though it may sound counterintuitive, Educational institution pages should only be created for college-level accounts. Individual academic programs should not be created as Educational institution pages — they should be created as Showcase pages.
