Standards for Administrative Web Pages

Following are standards for Web Developers of Administrative Web Pages for Colleges, Departments, and Organizations.

Colleges
  • Each college should maintain at least one (1) active Web developer at all times. This person will be the authorized College Web Developer who will own the account on the central server.
  • Each college at UH is also encouraged to appoint a team of three Web developers, so that someone will be prepared to take over as the authorized College Web Developer if necessary. Other members of the college may also be actively engaged in providing information to the Web to the team; however, only the College Web Developer will be given authorization to upload to the Server.
  • The Dean of the College is ultimately responsible for the content of the information which is presented via the Web for that college, consistent with other University policies.
  • The College Development Team will be the contact point for all members of the college and will be responsible to their college Dean on the amount, type, and accuracy of the information that is presented via their Web access.
  • The developers will provide the necessary server support to link to the Home Pages of the college's departments, centers, programs, services, and institutes.
  • The developers, as representatives for the Dean, will be responsbile for the content and quality of the college information.
  • College developers will coordinate with the college departments, divisions, centers, institutes and programs to update the links on their homepages.
  • College developers will maintain a subdirectory named "graphics" and store all image files within that subdirectory to ensure smooth operation of the server access to image files. For more information on this requirement, contact the UH Webmaster at www@uh.edu.
  • All requests for information concerning the college coming through the Web should be directed to the appropriate person or organization.
  • At a minimum, college Team Developers should provide an initial HomePage for their college which will link to the following areas:
    1. Description of the mission of the college
    2. Academic information (for example, a link to the college's section of the undergraduate or graduate catalog)
    3. Administrative information
    4. Links to the departmental home pages within the College
    5. Links to any centers, institutes or associated entities for the college
    6. Links to associated programs, services, and research
    7. People - list of faculty and staff
    8. Relevant information for students

Each Web page will also as a matter of policy contain at the bottom:

  1. Link to the UH Home Page
  2. Listing of the URL
  3. Date of last update
  4. Email address of person responsible for the page

Academic Departments
  1. Each department should include at least one (1) active developer at all times. This person will own the department's account on the central server. Departments are encouraged to maintain a web developers team of 3 members. Other members of the department may be actively engaged in providing information to the Web; however, only the appointed web devloper will given authorization to upload to the Server. Exceptions to these guidelines are that individual faculty members may develop home pages and may hold accounts permitting them to maintain their home pages. (See below, "Faculty.")
  2. The Chair of the Department is ultimately responsible for the content of the information which is presented via the Web for the department.
  3. The Department Development Team will be the contact point for all members of the department and will be responsible to their department Chair on the amount, type, and accuracy of the information that is presented via their Web access.
  4. The developers, as representatives for the Chair, will be responsbile for the content and quality of the department information.
  5. All requests for information concerning the department coming through the Web should be directed to the appropriate organization or person.
  6. At a minimum, department Team Developers should provide an initial HomePage for their department which will link to the following areas:
      1. description of the mission of the department
      2. academic information (for example, a link to the department's section of the catalog)
      3. people - list of faculty and staff
      4. Other relevant information for students

Organizations and Administrative Departments
    1. Each organization/administrative department at UH should appoint one (1) active developer at all times. This person will own the organization/department's account on the central server. Organizations/departments are encouraged to appoint a web developer team of 3 members. Other members of the organization may be actively engaged in providing information to the Web. However, only the officially appointed web developer will be given authorization to upload to the Server. Exceptions to these guidelines are that individual faculty members may develop home pages and may hod accounts permitting thme==em to maintain their home pages. (See below, "Faculty.")
    2. The Director, Manager, President or Chair of the organization is ultimately responsible for the content of the information which is presented via the Web for the department/organization.
    3. The organization Development Team will be the contact point for all members of the department/organization and will be responsible to their Director or Manager on the amount, type, and accuracy of the information that is presented via their Web access.
    4. The developers, as representatives for the Director or Manager, will be responsbile for the content and quality of the organization information.
    5. All requests for information concerning the organization coming through the Web should be directed to the appropriate organization within UH
    6. At a minimum, department/organization Team Developers should provide an initial HomePage for their department/organization which will link to the following areas:
      1. Description of the mission of the department/organization
      2. Academic information (for example, a link to the department's section of the catalog)
      3. People - list of faculty and staff
      4. Other relevant information for students
      5. Each Web page will also as a matter of policy contain at the bottom:
