Reading peer-reviewed scientific articles can be challenging when you're just getting started. The Journal Club on the Biological Sciences is designed to give students the opportunity to read, evaluate and discuss peer-reviewed articles.

Students can take advantage of this risk-free environment and join the conversation. Simply read the article in advance, and bring any questions or comments you have on the paper to the meeting. The students who chose the paper will present it to the group, and then we will discuss it. 

The theme for Spring 2024 is Machine Learning and Biomedical Research. While the use of computing in biomedical research is not new, recent advances in computing capacity, algorithms, and hardware has allowed for faster and more sophisiticated analysis. This analysis in areas such as molecular dynamics, protein folding, and docking has led to a number of computer-driven insights. Some recent examples have been predicting protein structure and identifying new antibiotics.

All meetings in Spring 2024, including the Journal Club Symposium, will be in Room 212S (Large Classroom) in the Honors College (M.D. Anderson Library).
