Welcome to the pages of the UH Faculty Council website. Here, we hope you will find the informational resources you are looking for. Our goal when developing and managing this website is to bring under one umbrella a variety of links and resources that might impact the day-to-day work of a faculty member. Of course, we wish to also provide information on the workings of the faculty council itself and on all the proceedings and documents related to the council committees. In that sense, the council website is designed to be both “outward-looking,” that is, a resource for UH faculty and “inward-looking,” that is, a resource for faculty council members.

UH Together

As one of the first universities to establish a Faculty Council, UH continues to lead the way in fostering collaboration and shared governance between faculty and administration. Mark your calendars: the second full Faculty Council meeting will take place on November 18, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. in Space City Room, #214, Student Center South. Agenda coming soon at the Faculty Council website.

Each week, we will shine a light on a key SAM or MAPP policy that directly affects faculty. Our goal is to make navigating policies and procedures more straightforward and more transparent — because informed faculty make a stronger UH community.

As we are in the midst of election season, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the democratic process as private citizens, including voting, volunteering, and making personal political contributions. However, under SAM 02.A.39 – Political Aid and Legislative Influence, university funds, resources, and official channels may not be used to influence the outcome of an election or support or oppose political candidates or legislative measures. Employees should avoid using university resources or their official positions to promote political causes and should ensure that any political activities are conducted in a personal capacity.

Event scheduling involves balancing a variety of needs and priorities. Events for the broader community are often held in the evening, while those focused on the UH community are typically scheduled during the workday. At the same time, after-hours events can be difficult for faculty and staff with family or caregiving responsibilities.

Because no single time works for everyone, we will continue exploring a variety of days and times for faculty events. While weekday events often draw the largest attendance, offering a mix of scheduling options throughout the year may help more faculty participate. We appreciate the feedback and will keep it in mind as we plan future events.

Café Conversations with Patrick Peters and Yoon Koh

Join us for Café Conversations on Faculty Council! This informal gathering is an opportunity to connect, share ideas, ask questions, and engage in conversation. Everyone is welcome to attend—not just Faculty Council members.

UH Research Forum

Date: Thursday, November 5, 2026

Time: 12:00 — 1:00 PM

Location: Zoom

This forum will keep you connected to developing strategic and operational initiatives and provide you with opportunities related to your research. VPR Claudia Neuhauser will provide a welcome and be available, along with the presenters, for a Q&A session toward the end of the session. Click here to register.

Faculty/Staff Homecoming Tailgate

Join the Homecoming festivities to enjoy fun, food, and fellowship during the 2026 Homecoming Game where our University of Houston Cougar football team takes on the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Café Conversations: Associate Provost Dr. Jeff Morgan

Join Dr. Jeff Morgan for a discussion on "The Growing Role of AI in Research and Teaching." This session will explore how artificial intelligence is transforming higher education by enhancing research, supporting innovative teaching practices, and creating new opportunities for faculty and students. Attendees will gain insights into emerging AI trends, practical applications, and considerations for integrating AI responsibly into academic work.
