Welcome to the pages of the UH Faculty Council website. Here, we hope you will find the informational resources you are looking for. Our goal when developing and managing this website is to bring under one umbrella a variety of links and resources that might impact the day-to-day work of a faculty member. Of course, we wish to also provide information on the workings of the faculty council itself and on all the proceedings and documents related to the council committees. In that sense, the council website is designed to be both “outward-looking,” that is, a resource for UH faculty and “inward-looking,” that is, a resource for faculty council members.

UH Together

The Faculty Council would like to thank everyone for attending our first meeting on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Faculty Council Presiding Officer Patrick Peters welcomed attendees, followed by remarks from Chancellor Renu Khator and Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Faculty Affairs Jim Briggs. Committee chairs from the Curriculum Committee, Faculty Engagement Committee, and Research and Scholarship Committee also greeted members and provided an overview of their committees’ work and priorities for the year. Full meeting minutes will be forthcoming.

Each week, we will shine a light on a key SAM or MAPP policy that directly affects faculty. Our goal is to make navigating policies and procedures more straightforward and more transparent — because informed faculty make a stronger UH community.

This week, we are highlighting Faculty Workload Policy. 

The University of Houston Faculty Workload Policy (MAPP 12.05.01) recognizes that faculty responsibilities extend beyond classroom instruction to include research and creative activities, student advising and mentoring, service, and professional engagement. By acknowledging these diverse contributions and providing flexibility in workload assignments, the policy supports a balanced approach that reflects the many ways faculty advance student success and contribute to UH's mission as a research-intensive university.

The UH Division of Research provides educational programming and practical training on relevant topics in award management, compliance, agency updates, University policies and resources. DOR event recordings and presentation slides are hosted on SharePoint along with other important announcements for the research community.

Don’t forget to explore DOR’s event page to stay informed about upcoming workshops, training opportunities, and resources designed to support researchers throughout the research lifecycle.
