UH Next Checklist

Here is the student checklist to begin your path to UH Next.

Student Checklist

Step 1

  • Explore majors within the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences at the University of Houston.
    • UH Next maps are available for select majors within the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences for each partner community college. 
      • If you (1) do not see your intended major on the list or (2) are not attending one of our partner institutions, please visit UH Transfer Students to explore other pathways into UH. 

Step 2

  • Apply to one of the five partner community colleges as a degree-seeking Associate of Arts or Associate of Sciences student. 
    • Our current UH Next partner institutions are Alvin Community College, College of the Mainland, Houston Community College, San Jacinto College, and Wharton County Junior College. 

Step 3

  • Sign up for the UH Next program as early as possible.

Step 4

  • Begin your college career at the community college. 
    • Follow the UH Next map for your intended UH CLASS major to earn your associate’s degree and to prepare to transfer to UH.  
    • Meet with your community college advisor each semester. 

Step 5

  • Apply to the University of Houston before beginning your final semester at the community college. 
    • Use the Common App or Apply Texas to apply as a transfer student.
    • Select your intended CLASS major as your first-choice major. 
    • Consent to reverse transfer to ensure you earn your associate’s degree from your community college.  
    • Submit your official college transcript(s) to the UH undergraduate admissions office. 
    • Track your application status through your myUH Self-Service account via AccessUH. 

Step 6

  • Apply for graduation at your community college by the posted deadline. 
    • Meet with your community college advisor before applying for graduation to verify that you’ve satisfied all degree requirements. 
    • Students who are not on track to earn their associate’s degree before transferring to UH may be eligible to earn their associate’s degree through reverse transfer but must consent to reverse transfer on their UH application.

  • Register for UH Transfer Orientation through myUH Self-Service via AccessUH. 
    • All newly admitted UH students are required to attend orientation before they will be able to register for classes.

Step 9

  • Check your transfer credits through your myUH Self-Service account via AccessUH.  
    • If you believe you are missing credits, contact a UH Next advisor for assistance. 
    • If you were currently taking classes at the time that you submitted your official transcript(s) with your application, you may need to submit an updated official transcript showing your final grades in your most recent courses. 

Step 10

  • Attend UH Transfer Orientation.
    • You’ll be advised by a UH advisor and register for your first semester at UH as part of orientation.
