Spanish in the United States

The Hispanic Studies program prepares students with the linguistic and cultural competencies to represent, analyze and operate within Hispanic culture of the United States, whether through specific undergraduate courses for students going into such professions as health, medicine, business or communications or through graduate courses specializing in teaching heritage speakers or preparing future professors with a wide range of competencies relative to the literature, language and culture of Hispanic peoples.

Our programs promote bilingualism as well as bicultural education in a diverse environment where the major languages are English and Spanish. Within this context, Hispanic Studies contributes to academic success of students who bring rich diversity and varied cultures into the classroom.
