Biographical Summary

Sophia Amos, PhD (in progress), is a lecturer in the Department of Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Houston, where she teaches courses on the religions of the Middle East and Asia.

She served as an adjunct faculty member in the departments of Religion and Philosophy, and Communication at the University of Indianapolis, as well as in the Foreign Languages and Cultures departments at Middlesex College. She was an Associate Instructor in the departments of Religions, Criminal Justice, Political Science, English, Public Communications, Central Eurasian Studies, and International Studies at Indiana University-Bloomington. Sophia is currently an advanced PhD student in Middle Eastern Studies, with a minor in Political Science, at Indiana University Bloomington. From 2021 to 2025, she was awarded the US Department of Education’s prestigious FLAS Fellowship in Middle Eastern Studies, Islamic Studies, and Asian Studies. She received the Indiana State Global Citizen distinguished Polyglot Award from the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association (IFLTA) in Indianapolis.

Her research and teaching interests include comparative religions of the world, comparative politics of the Middle East, Political Islam, and MENA-China Relations. She holds a master’s degree in Religion from New York and another master's degree in International Affairs and Conflict Resolution from Boston. As a graduate student in Boston, she worked as a research assistant in the Islamic, Middle Eastern, and Asian Studies Departments at Harvard University and Georgetown University during her curricular practical training.
