Amr Essam Abdelmoneim is a PhD student at the University of Houston and an urban planning expert with more than 10 years of experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning and postgraduate studies in architecture and politics.Amr has played a key role in several mega national and international initiatives, most notably: the national project for the development of Egyptian rural villages (Haya Karima) in Egypt and the Humanizing Cities initiative in Saudi Arabia. He has been actively engaged with the Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC), where he co-authored national urban codes - most notably the Egyptian Code for Bicycle Mobility, aimed at transforming Egyptian cities into bicycle-friendly, low-emission environments. In addition, he has collaborated with leading institutions such as the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies (ECSS), the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and the Nada foundation for safer Egyptian roads, producing research and policy papers that examine the intersections of the built environment with social, economic, and political structures. Amr’s research examines the interrelationships between urban mobility, history and political economy, with a particular focus on how infrastructure, codes, and policies shape urban life and social equity. He has published widely on these themes, and his research has been recognized with awards from both the Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts and the Supreme Council of Culture in Egypt.
