The Copy and Print section of Copy, Print and Delivery Services is available to faculty, staff, and students at the university to meet their printing requirements. The team also provides copy and print jobs for the University of Houston-Downtown and UH-Clear Lake.

“What we do can be divided into three categories: stationery; print jobs designed outside the department; and in-house work, where we are involved from start to finish,” said Eric Dowding, graphics and communications manager at Copy, Print and Delivery Services.

Stationery includes strictly branded letterheads, envelopes, and business cards that provide customers with products that reflect the professionalism the university wants to promote. The CPD print shop does accept outside files to produce high quality printed materials for clients. The team also has dedicated graphic designers to assist anyone who requires their project to be set up before going to print.

Innovation enables printshop to meet its potential

Last year marked CPD’s 75th year of production. Through the years, the print shop has adapted and expanded to meet the growing demands that have been brought on by modern technology. About 15 years ago, the University invested in the shop by purchasing a KBA four-color press. Since then, additional updated equipment, such as, the Ricoh 7110 SX five-color station and wide-format plotters, has been added to make it a robust facility.

“We are fortunate to have an on-campus printshop. There are only a few universities in Texas that still operate their own,” said Dowding. “Following the pandemic, the University of Texas closed its printing facilities in the Texas Medical Center.”

The printshop’s largest print runs occur for the Office of Protocol and Special Events department’s commencement ceremonies in the spring and the fall, and for the “Houston History” semiannual publications for the Welcome Wilson Houston History Collaborative in the Center of Public History.

“I have been working with Copy and Print Services for 15 years, and they are the best!” said editor Debbie Harwell, a Houston History/instructional assistant professor at the center. “The staff pays attention to the most minute details and the result is impeccable work every time. On top of that, the team members are the ultimate customer service professionals who are a joy to work with and have come to feel like family. “

Expanded line of services expands CPS’s opportunities

CPS has the ability to provide a variety of items, such as banners, posters, flags, yard signs and stickers. A portfolio of the team’s work can be found on the department’s website.

Along with those products, CPS is equipped to support promotional items needs. The vast list of available promotional products can be viewed by clicking the “Promotional Services Order Online” link on the promotional services webpage. The pricing for these items is very reasonable, as orders processed by Copy and Print Services are routed directly to the manufacturer. Eliminating the middleman results in significant savings for UH departments.

“I have ordered quite a few items through Copy and Print in the past,” said Rebecca Negri, marketing and outreach manager at the school of medicine.

“Leslie, Nalan and the rest of the Copy and Print team are a pleasure to work with. They’ve helped us identify better items and better prices, kept us in the loop on updates to our orders, and provided assistance when something occasionally wasn’t right. Orders have arrived on time or early. Overall, the Copy and Print department helps make my job easier and are a great team!”
