The uber popular Houston hamburger spot Trill Burger made its pop-up debut at Cougar Woods in October giving University of Houston students an opportunity to sample Trill Burger. And the UH community was more than thrilled to sample the burgers with Cougar Woods packed with students lined out to the door.
In the end, 650 students got a taste of Trill Burger, and by all indications, the pop up was a roaring success.
“We feel fantastic! We got some media mentions, had a ton of fun, and most importantly, we made a lot of students happy,” said UH Dining Services District Marketing Manager Alexcis Mendoza.
Trill Burgers being at UH is not new, as the Houston eatery has a concession stand this season at TDECU Stadium where Trill Burger and Trill Tenders are served during Cougar football home games. The partnership was struck with Chartwells, the company that oversees the UH Dining Services program.
Dr. Emily A. Messa, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice President for Administration, along with Charles Pereira, Chartwells’ VP of Operations, worked to leverage the existing Trill Burger relationship to facilitate the pop up.
The Trill Burger meal was incorporated into the student's meal plan so a student could obtain a meal via their meal plans.
“They pay for these meal plans and they’re looking for a top-notch experience so there’s no additional charge for this,” said Mendoza.
Kinesiology major Stephanie Oladipo was excited to try Trill Burger and glad that the meal was a part of her meal plan as she didn’t have to come out of pocket.
Traditionally, Trill Burgers are served in black and yellow boxes, but for the Trill Burger concession stand at TDECU Stadium and for the pop-up, the meal was served in red and white boxes.
Sophomore Nia Jeremiah is no stranger to Trill Burger. The Human Development and Family Services major said she’s had Trill Burger during UH football games and made sure to be at Cougar Woods to eat it again.
For Jeremiah, the bun, the seasoning, and the sauce are what makes the burger stand out to her.
International student Valeriano Ojong had heard of Trill Burger, but the senior had never gotten a chance to try it. He saw an ad for the pop-up three weeks prior to the event and made plans to be at Cougar Woods to try it. Now, thanks to the Trill Burger pop-up, Ojong has tried Trill Burger, and loved it after one bite.
“Nine out of ten,” said the Marketing and Management major.
With the success of the Trill Burger pop-op, UH Dining Services is in discussions to host another one this semester.
